Welcome Humans and Others.
I’m what you call, an underground artist. Like the cicada I’m emerging in 2025, because I believe that I might be able to find my community and, I like chirping in the forest. My name is DNA.
Over the last 30+ years, I have been very lucky to interview some amazing human beings. People like Desmond Tutu, Bob Weir, Judy Mowatt, Sasha Shulgin, Ken Kesey, Moshe Kasher, Laurie Kilmartin, Owsley, Edgar Mitchell and hundreds of others. I’ve been published internationally since 1989 in magazines you never heard of (REVelation, Bizzare, Rage, Magical Blend), newspapers in tiny California towns, and in my own zines (see pic).
My archive is deep and I’m ready to finally explore and share it.
Free interviews, and essays, will be posted for everyone because I’m not an elitist. But I do have paid subscription, because I’m having trouble eating clouds. If you are willing to trust me with a paid subscription, here’s what you can expect to receive:
Access to all interviews
Archival video and audio
Archival podcasts and one hopes, a new podcast.
And, my total appreciation.
But work with me here, it’s going to take time to get everything up and running.
You can’t have revolution without evolution - DNA
The scariest thing for me is the new essays that will accompany any interviews, or stories. Although I have been a journalist for decades, I have only, this year, begun to talk about living with Extreme ADHD and Audio Processing Disorder - it’s been revelatory, but also very humbling to have a window to look at myself through.
You should know that I’m also a stand-up comic, who just released his first comedy album, and so, you might find humor in places you don’t expect.
Quotes from people nice enough to listen.
I love DNA's new album, "Dark Horse." He's smart, he's silly, he's dark, he's light. He jokes about loss and family, drugs and survival. Just about everything you need to hear about on a comedy album these days. Stream it, download it, consume it NOW. - Comic Laurie Kilmartin
I loved listening to DNA's debut album, DARK HORSE. It's a super fun roller coaster of a look into the brain and heart of a singular artist who is funny and weird in the best way and very much himself. And that is coming from the brain and heart of someone who is funny and weird and very much MYself. - Comic Myq Kaplan
There's a comfort in watching someone do stand up for decades; you can let yourself feel happy and safe in where the comedy is about to go. You know it's going to be funny, but DNA also lets the audience think. DARK HORSE is just fun - Comic Jackie Kashian
What I’m saying, is, I’m here on SubStack and will continue to be. Let’s work together on getting to the next place.
